This composition is one of two (next page) that the client just loved but was unable to use by the time the book came together. As a result both covers were never used—a very common experience for designers and work they are partial to.
This design uses a shot from an old, dusty junkyard across the street from a California Misson I was shooting. My goal was to integrate different cutting edge Photoshop techniques without any of them clashing or looking as though they actually ARE cutting edge.
Vintage fonts, (one of which was later chosen for the Obama campaign), simulated methods of 60's era lithography and book binding were combined with modern Photoshop styling techniques to fuse the piece into a truly contemporary yet timeless work.
Rights to this image are available for purchase (the title of the book is not).
